December is a month full of special events in many ways.As the last month of the year.Hanukkah, one of the Jewish festivals, is most often celebrated in December.Buddhists celebrate December 8 as the day Buddha attained enlightenment.Ashura (the tenth day of Muharram) is a significant day for Muslims in this month. The end of the southern solstice (the end of the sun's journey to the south of the Earth). The beginning of winter (Winter solstice), therefore, is the shortest day in the Northern Hemisphere. Pagan religions celebrate this as the birthday of the sun god (Rebirth of the Sun)—for example, the Zoroastrian Yalda (meaning "birth") celebration on December 21.Christians around the world celebrate the birth of Jesus in this month. It is the celebration of the sunrise of the pagan religions mentioned above, and is later considered to have transformed into Christmas.More important than when Christ was born, what is the purpose of Christ's birth? Was it fulfilled? If it were fulfilled, how would it benefit you and me?If summarized in one sentence, God sent his Son into the world to restore the relationship with God that man lost in the Garden of Eden because of sin and to reconcile man with God the Creator.Jesus' birth also fulfills Old Testament prophecies. For example: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).In the New Testament, the apostle John says;“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16).
God promised man eternal life through the sacrificial death of his Son, Christ, from death, the penalty of sin. But this eternal life is not available to all, but only to those who believe in the Son, Christ. That is what we understand from the verse quoted above. What should we believe? We must believe that the blood of Jesus, the Son of God, shed on Calvary through His death on the cross, cleanses me from all sin.
“The blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanses us from all sin.” {1 John 1:7}.If this process does not take place in us, the purpose of Christ’s birth and death is not fulfilled in us. As long as the purpose is not fulfilled, no matter how much we celebrate, Christmas remains a useless ritual for us.We must decide for ourselves whether we should celebrate what is useless or whether we want to make Christmas useful for you this time.More than celebrations, we need love and devotion to Christ.Let us accept Christ, who came as the Savior of the world, as our own Savior in our hearts. The Lord says, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will eat with him, and he with me." (Revelation 3:20).Recognize the voice of the Lord, the embodiment of love, who is still knocking at the door of your heart.“The sheep know the shepherd’s voice and follow him” (John 10:4).Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27).I pray that this Christmas season will help you to recognize the voice of the Lord in your life and follow him.May God bless you!Amen.Sam Thomas Malayil
